What’s Are the Benefits of Toshiba and Insignia Fire TV Edition TVs?

Fire TV Smart TVs are cool because they come with Fire TV fully integrated. You don’t need to buy a separate streaming device such as Fire TV Cube or Stick in order to access Fire TV content.

But you probably already knew that, didn’t you!

  • They are super cheap! Due to the insane competition in the Smart TV space, Amazon has priced these babies to sell.
  • They come in a wide range of sizes to fit just about space, including 24-inch, 32-inch, 39-inch, 43-inch, 50-inch, and 55-inch models.
  • You can get them in high definition (HD) as well as 4K Ultra-high-definition (the HD models are generally even less expensive)
  • They now have Alexa built-in! You can use Alexa to not just watch your favorite shows but also control smart home devices, play music, switch inputs, get news and weather, and much more.
  • You get access to thousands of channels, apps, and Alexa skills right on your television.
  • Stream all of your favorites including Disney+, Netflix, YouTube TV, Prime Video, Hulu, HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ, and countless others.
  • The TV continuously gets smarter as the latest Alexa skills and software updates are downloaded automatically.
  • The TV comes with a super easy to use voice remote with Alexa. Or you can pair it with a smart universal remote like Logitech Harmony for more advanced control and setups.

Can You Connect Your Existing Cable or Satellite TV box to Fire TV Smart TVs?

Of course!

Since these TVs are so cheap, a lot of people think they are not compatible with your existing cable companies like Xfinity, DIRECTTV or Comcast.

This just simply isn’t true.

You can connect your cable/satellite box or gaming console through one of the TV’s three HDMI ports, just like any other Smart TV.

What is the Difference Between Insignia and Toshiba Fire TV Smart TVs?

Generally speaking, the TVs are pretty much the same overall, except where the branding is concerned.

Toshiba is a top-tier Japanese brand that has been around for years and a widely respected TV manufacturer. Insignia is Best Buy’s house brand. It has also enjoyed a solid reputation, and it has grown in popularity since Amazon started putting Fire TV in its TVs

You will often find that Insignia TVs are priced slightly less than Toshiba. In fact, Insignia often undercuts all of the major brands from a price to functionality perspective

Consumer Reports has an excellent TV buying guide here. Both Toshiba and Insignia are featured among other TVs.

Are There Any Limitations with Insignia and Toshiba Fire TV Smart TVs?

Not really.

Some Smart TVs will have additional HDMI ports, and I would like to see a 60″ and 65″ versions of these TVs but there are no real limitations.

There is also only one coaxial input, but you can add additional inputs using a switch if this is a requirement.

As stated previously, they will work with all major cable and satellite TV providers

You can also hook them up to an HD antenna if you want to go the cord-cutting route.

The refresh rate is generally 60 Hz, comparable to other leading brands like Samsung Smart TV.

Resolution is typically either 720P or 1080 p HD or 4k UHD. I would strongly recommend the 4K HD models for the best picture quality.

Most models come with Dolby Vision HDR, the 4K video format developed and promoted by the folks that brought us Dolby Surround.

It is 100% Wi-Fi compatible. You can establish a Wi-Fi connection to a router that is located in the same room or another room of your home.

Most have Bluetooth connectivity, so you can connect them up to your favorite Bluetooth headphones, soundbars, surround sound setups, etc. Check the model specs to make sure if this is important for you.

Amazon Silk and Firefox web browsers come preinstalled.

There a no limitations on:

  • Storage
  • Streaming media devices like Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast
  • Streaming media services like Netflix, YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video (of course), Hulu, HBO, and others
  • Ability to play games using your devices like Xbox and Playstation

People who own these TVs generally love them. I have seen multiple reviews where customers pretty much say: “Best TV EVER.”
