In this article, I’m going to give you a thorough answer to the question: can Alexa speak Spanish on your Amazon Echo devices?

The answer is not as simple as might think, so let’s dive right in.
Can Alexa Speak Spanish?
The short answer is:
Yes. Amazon Alexa can speak Spanish; however, not all languages are supported on all Echo devices. You can check to see if Spanish is supported on your device and change your language using the Amazon Alexa app under Settings > Devices > Device Name > Language.
Here you will find a list of available languages; if Spanish is missing, make sure your Alexa App is up to date.
If it’s still missing after that, then unfortunately Spanish is not supported either on your device or in your location.
Some of the older Alexa products may have fewer languages from which to choose, or they may be limited to only English. For example, it appears that Spanish is not an option for the 1st Generation Echo Show. Aye, carumba.
What Spanish Dialects Does Alexa Support?
If Spanish is supported on your device, then great! You will find three separate dialect options for Spanish:
- Espana
- Mexican
- Estados Unidos
The above dialects are all supported at this time. Setting any one these will change the dialect that Alexa speaks and responds and also adapts the “local knowledge” that Alexa can provide.
After switching to one of these dialects, your Amazon Alexa will now speak Spanish, and you can use all of its base functions in Spanish. As the App will likely warn you, some capabilities, skills, or music may not be available in Spanish, but there are many other skills designed specifically for Spanish-speaking users, such as for Univision and Telemundo.

How to Set Up Amazon Alexa to Speak Spanish [Step By Step]
Here are detailed, step by step instructions, if you need more help setting up Spanish as your desired language on Amazon Echo.
- Open the Alexa app.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Device Settings.
- Tap the device for which you would like to change the language.
- Tap Language.
- Tap Brazilian Portuguese IF it is on the list. If not update your Alexa app.
?Note: If the option is not after you update your Alexa app, this means that the language is most likely not supported on your device. Sigh. You can try another device if you have more than one. - Tap Espanol or your preferred dialect if it is on the list. If not, update your Alexa app.

You’ll have to do these steps for each device individually, so if you have multiple Alexa devices you can set them to different languages if so desired.

Can Alexa Speak Spanish? Multilingual Option
If you’ve got a household with multiple different languages being spoken, and you want it to be as easy as possible for everyone to use Alexa, there is also an option for Alexa to speak both Spanish and English.
If you’re looking to set this one up for your own Alexa, follow the same steps as above, but for the language option, select Espanol and English. Now Alexa will respond to both English and Spanish – responding in the same language you spoke to her! Handy, right?
This will let you support lot of cool multi-language scenarios. For example, you could have the following set up in the same household:
- Your child has an Echo Dot Kids Edition in their bedroom that speaks only English.
- You have an Echo Show 2nd Generation on your kitchen counter that is multi-lingual (speaks Spanish when spoken to in Spanish and English when spoken to in English).
- Your parents staying in your in-law apartment has an Echo Plus that communicates with them entirely in Spanish.
As you can see, when answering the quesetion, can Alexa speak Spanish, the multilingual options are key and flexible for the devices that support them.
The multilingual option could also be useful if you’re an English-speaker learning Spanish too – you’ll always have Alexa around to practice with.
